Ross McCurdy

Pilot and Project Lead

Ross is a graduate of Rhode Island College and a Science Teacher at Ponaganset High School in Rhode Island where he teaches Chemistry and Alternative Energy. He holds a Commercial Pilot’s License and Instrument rating and is a recipient of the 2015 Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators. and include photos and other information on previous renewable energy projects achieved with the students and members of the Ponaganset community.

Tomoharu Nishino


Tomoharu is a long time member of Paramus Flying Club and Assistant Director of the International Relations Program at the University of Pennsylvania, as well as a Certified Flight Instructor at Caldwell Airport in New Jersey. Tomoharu was inspired to become a pilot after flying in Alaska in a Bush plane and has logged some interesting flights including flying medical support missions to Haiti after the devastating earthquake in 2010 and piloting for Angel Flights. Tomoharu will be on the Bioflight from Rhode Island to Dayton, Ohio, home of the Wright Brothers.

Thierry P. Saint Loup


Thierry is Vice President of SMA Engines, the company that made the advanced engine powering our Bioflight. Thierry is a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University where he earned a degree in Aviation Technology along with his Commercial/multi engine/instrument Pilot’s License and Aircraft & Powerplant mechanic’s license. Thierry is also a glider pilot and an expert on Aviation Diesel Engines. Originally from France and now living just outside Dallas, Thierry will be on the Bioflight from Grand Prairie, Texas to Santa Monica, California and back to Texas.

Aedan McCurdy


Aedan is 12 years old and a 7th Grader at Gallagher Middle School in Smithfield, RI. Aeden enjoys science and aviation and was on the Kittyhawk Bioflight back in 2013. Aedan will be helping with navigation, airport information, photos, and video during the flight and will be writing about the experience in a Blog.

Alex Schenck


Alex is a graduate of Ponaganset High School and one of Ross McCurdy’s former students. Alex earned his Bachelor’s degree from New England Tech and then went on to earn his Pilot’s License and a Master’s Degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). Alex and Ross are members of the same flying club in Rhode Island and fly together often. Alex will be on the Bioflight for the home stretch back to Rhode Island.

Kyle Corry

Tech Support and Web Designer

Kyle is a graduate of Ponaganset High School and studied Computer Science at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). He designed and developed the website and has been doing essential technical support for the Bioflight for years.
